Trump and the UAP files: what is documented, what remains to be verified

Announcements surrounding a possible declassification of UFO files are relaunching public debate. Between political promises, military archives and UAP phenomena that are still poorly explained, one question remains central: what do we really know, and what still needs to be verified?

What Trump actually said and signed on UAPs

Donald Trump made several statements about PSUs during his two presidential terms. Here is what is documented by primary sources:

  • December 2020 : Asked about Roswell during an interview with his son Donald Trump Jr., Trump replied that he had heard “interesting” things on the subject, but that he would say no more. This is not confirmation.
  • 2020–2021 (first term) : the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2021, signed by Trump, includes a clause asking the DNI for an unclassified report on UAPs within 180 days — resulting in the DNI's June 2021 preliminary report.
  • January 2025 (second term) : Trump signs presidential memorandum directing federal agencies to release available unclassified UAP documents. This memorandum is at the origin of the PURSUE program and the WAR.GOV/UFO portal launched in May 2026.

What is not established in Trump's statements

⚠ Points not checked

  • Trump has repeatedly suggested that he has exceptional information on the subject — without ever specifying or publishing it.
  • No statement by Trump has explicitly asserted an extraterrestrial origin of UAPs.
  • The January 2025 memorandum does not request the release of classified documents — only unclassified ones available.
  • The actual scope of the records released in PURSUE depends on what the agencies actually transmitted, not just the presidential request.
