April 27, 2020: an unprecedented confirmation
Le April 27, 2020, the Pentagon officially publishes three videos filmed by American Navy pilots and authenticates them with an official press release. The spokesperson for the Department of Defense, Sue Gough, states that the DoD is authorizing their release to clear up any misunderstanding about the authenticity of the videos that have been circulating unofficially since 2017.
This is the first time that the Pentagon has officially and publicly acknowledged the existence of videos of unidentified aerial phenomena filmed by its own forces.
What the Pentagon said — and what it didn't say
The press release of April 27, 2020 specifies:
- The videos are authentic — they were indeed filmed by American Navy sensors.
- They were declassified for clear up any confusion about authenticity videos circulating on the Internet.
- They had “not been reviewed through the official declassification process.”

- He does not claim that the objects filmed are of extraterrestrial origin.
- It does not identify the origin of the objects.
- It does not qualify the observed behaviors.
Why this confirmation changed the status of the file
Prior to April 27, 2020, any discussion of Navy videos was conducted in an informal setting. After this press release, the three recordings became officially recognized documentary pieces by the DoD. It is this status that allows them to appear in the archives of the PURSUE program from 2026.
